How It All Started
I’ve had the privilege of working with some really special people and mentors throughout my career. Not only technically gifted and remarkable specialists in their respective fields, but people who share a similar outlook on life – including a desire or need to do good in this world. This is how the DigiSpark Network started.
After becoming just another statistic (retrenched) during the quarantine lock-down of 2020, I decided to acknowledge that nagging feeling in the back of my mind – that I should be doing something more meaningful than simply job hunting for the next salary.
Fortuitously a previous client, after finding out that I was unemployed, reached out about creating a community-help website for him. That nagging feeling in the back of my mind stopped, and I threw myself into this new and VERY daunting venture.
What happened after that, was something straight out of “The Alchemist” (the well-known novel by Paulo Coelho). Chance meetings turned into business opportunities. I realised that I was not happy with the model that most Digital Agencies were using – what I wanted to do was put client satisfaction at the forefront of everything we do. In order to promote client happiness, it needed to start with employee happiness – DigiSpark believes that happy employees directly translates to well looked after clients (Sir Richard Branson hat-tip).
Thus, DigiSpark Labs was born – with the belief that genuine client satisfaction will bring success.
Making a Difference
After being in the digital industry for roughly 15+ years and working with some of the largest agencies and corporations in South Africa (and the world), job satisfaction had mostly eluded me. Being exposed to social inequality, disdain for the environment, corruption (and the list goes on) – meant that something had to give.
Digispark Labs was born of the desire to “be the change” – and do good in this world.
Our values are deeply rooted in saving the environment, addressing social inequality and providing economic upliftment where it is needed most.
